I'm on the train every morning and every night for 45 minutes. Sometimes I read, sometimes I day dream, sometimes I sneak a few winks of catch up sleep. Yesterday was a few winks kinda morning. I've trained myself on these days to wake right about the time we get to Metro's campus and all the college kids exit all at once. Not yesterday though. Yesterday I woke about four stops short to two women about to break out in a cat fight.
One was sitting, she was in her 30's. One was standing directly behind her, she was in her 50's I'd guess. I woke to something like this...
Sitting: Please stop bumping me...
Standing: I'm not bumping you...
Sitting: Yes you are, please stop...
Standing: I'm not bumping you, but if you don't watch out, I'll do more than bump you...
Sitting: Lady, watch what you say...
Standing: I'll not watch what I say, you're sitting, I'm standing, at least you have a seat...
Sitting: Just stop bumping me...
Standing: Do I need to call security, because I will...
Sitting: Lady, you have an attitude problem...
Standing: I do have an attitude problem and it's you...
Sitting: Will you please move?
Standing: I will NOT move...you just better pipe down...
...and it went on and on like this until very nearly the next six stops. Everyone else was looking anywhere but at them, avoiding eye contact, especially with Standing. She was fiesty for an older woman. She was about spitting nails. I just find it interesting that two complete strangers can have an interaction like that, especially in a public place. We arrived, all in one piece thankfully. A full on brawl never broke out, but I was worried there for a few minutes. I'll tell you what, the train is never boring.
