Kenzie is on her last voyage with her school. I can't believe that in just a few months she'll be a 7th grader entering middle school. The time seems so short. I remember her and her cute short haircuts when she was in first and second grades. I remember her climbing the rock wall to the top in third and fourth and being so proud of herself. I can't believe how fast time moves.
Her expedition this time around includes two days of snow shoeing - she hates snow shoeing! It's hard work and it's cold outside! I hope in the end she can overlook that and enjoy the time with her friends -- realizing some of them will be going to different schools next year and they'll be parting.
Overall, I'm so happy we kept her at Renaissance. For all the expenses and the junk I took from others about the way they teach there, for my kids it's been a good experience and a great way to learn. I'm glad they were opened to so many experiences outside of the classroom, that the teachers lead the students to expand their own learning methods and experiences. It is a touchy-feely school. And my kids thrived there in that environment. They have built confidence in trying things they didn't think they could do. Kenzie especially has blossomed these last few years. She's become a strong, independent young woman. And I love that about her.
I may complain about all the getting ready and getting supplies endlessly that each expedition brought our family, but the experiences for our kids I wouldn't trade for anything in the world!
Mesa is working on becoming an IB middle school, which is an all-encompasing concept of learning similar to how Renaissance teaches so I know she's well prepared to move on into her new school. She's ready for sure, but me....not so much!
