So - we're off for a Brackney family adventure this weekend. We're camping down in Texas Creek in a place called Sweetwater Ranch right on the Arkansas River near Royal Gorge. I guess you need all that information if you're trying to find us, eh? ;) We're pretty excited as a whole. The kids are out of their minds with excitement...Frank and I are just trying to figure out how we'll get it all done in time to leave, but I know we will.
The great thing about the camp ground is that all the RV's and cabins are on one side of the river and all the tent camping is across a suspension bridge to the other side. So it should be pretty peaceful. A little pricey at $20 a night (right, unlike Arizona, you don't just find a place and pull off the road to pitch a tent here...took a little getting used to for me, too!), but it looks to be a nice, quiet, beautiful place well maintained by the private owners.
We'll spend our time hiking, reading, playing games, reconnecting as a family. Like one giant, ongoing family-home-evening and I can't wait. No cell phones, no chores, no things pulling our attention away. Simplicity at its finest. We even cut our meal prep down to a few cooked meals and those mostly at dinner. We've done the extravagant cook-all-day and cook some more camping and that's not good family fun.
It will be the first time we haven't camped with the Burris' bunch, so that will be different. Their summer is so jam packed they aren't able to pull away right now, and besides, the kids wanted it to be just our family for once. I think they want to see if we know what we're doing on our own! :) We certainly have the majority of the gear we need. We've been collecting over the last few years.
So - keep your fingers crossed for good weather for us. I'll have plenty of pictures and stories to share when I return, I'm sure!
