In that order. Last night the neighborhood decided to shoot off fireworks. The older kids were in heaven first lighting, then running. One was left a little close for comfort to my feet, however...and that scared the baggeezes out of my friends six-year-old daughter which led to a bribe of hot cocoa and good conversation. McKenzie came in to join us and the girls went and played...at 9:45p. Frank came in around 10:45p to see where we'd went off to and to break up the fun. The girls were asleep on the couch by then and we'd missed most of our fireworks but it was good to catch up.
We came home put the kids in bed, Frank started marinating the ribs in cola and I began work on the 2-day potato salad. Right, my mom's p-salad takes two days...but its so so so worth it! Its one recipe I cannot share, except with Kenzie and right now she's too young to care! But one day she will, when she's hankering for a taste of mom's and I'm not around to make it. That's how it happened for me anyway. I wanted it at my bridal shower...I just had to have it. I remember thinking through the process that it would have been acceptable to purchase a batch from the Jewel...but then it was done and rich, and creamy, and golden, and yummy and it made every minute worth it. Gramma Sloan would have been proud that day. So, I'm taking the time to reproduce it for today's festivities at the Burris' bunch!
Which leads me almost full-circle back to fireworks. We're heading over to Cal & D's for the fourth. Her brother Kevin and his wife Teri are in town from England where he's stationed. I adore Teri, a fellow photog...can't wait to see them. Our friends Dave & Mylynda are joining us with their brood and then in the evening we're heading down to Sedalia to catch the small town charm and fireworks...cannot wait. I love holidays. Especially those spent with friends and family, or in this case both. The Burris' bunch is family!

So when we come to Colorado for a visit, will you make me two day potato salad??? Happy 4th!
